Review – Blood of Wonderland (#2 Queen of Hearts Saga)

Wow, this has been a pretty epic read for me! I downloaded the first book onto my Kindle as it was only £1.99 on Amazon. I loved the first book, as you can probably tell from my review, but this one was even better!

Here is the blurb from GoodReads:
‘Dorothy Must Die meets Alice in Wonderland! Heroes become villains in the twisted YA sequel to Queen of Hearts…

Perfect for young adult fans of Tim Burton’s Through the Looking Glass.

The once-future Queen of Hearts, Princess Dinah, has been exiled from Wonderland. Her vicious father who she always feared has framed her for a brutal murder and turned the kingdom against her.

Now hiding in the mysterious Twisted Wood with only her war steed at her side, Dinah is faced with a choice – to leave Wonderland forever or stay and fight for the throne.

A chance encounter with a long-lost enemy of the kingdom brings Dinah more allies than she ever could have imagined. But before battle, Dinah must confront truths about her heart and her destiny – no matter how dark those secrets may be.

Revolution is rising in Wonderland. Dinah’s war has begun.’

Oooh, I am still reeling from this book! There have been twists and turns, betrayal and heartbreak, confessions and… a lot of confusion for a certain character. It has been an amazing journey and I simply cannot praise Colleen Oakes enough for this superb twist to the Wonderland created by Lewis Carroll.

Our journey starts right where the previous book left it, with Dinah on the run. We follow her journey with the magnificent Morte as she meets some unexpected allies on her treacherous escape from the King of Hearts, the man who destroyed everything, who took away everything and everyone she loved, the true villain of this story. It is a pretty emotional, and eye opening, experience for the former soon-to-be Queen of Hearts.

I’ll tell you something, those last few chapters… oh they nearly killed me! Honestly, it was like I was being mauled by Morte myself! This has been a real emotional journey for me, and I have lost many hours of sleep not just reading this book, but thinking about what is going to happen next. There were some things that I was able to see, but there were so many things that I picked up on just a little too late, you know, like when it was staring me right in the exhausted face!

With the war looming, I’m off to go and read the next book, War of the Cards. All I can really say is this has been a fantastic saga so far, and if you love a twist on old classics or fairy tales, then you will not be disappointed with all that Queen of Hearts has to offer.
